When you host a party or gathering of any kind, one of the biggest concerns is making the area look like a party zone. When guests arrive, their eyes should be drawn to the walls, floors and furniture in the area, creating an instant visual effect that is unforgettable. This applies for homes as well as event spaces that are used for parties.

5 Simple Tips for Creating the ‘Perfect Party Zone’

While you may think that you need to revamp every item in your home or at a venue, the truth is that such drastic steps are unnecessary. One of the simplest ways to add incredible appeal to any space is the smart use of décor, graphic art and accessories. A gorgeous collection of eye-catching artwork can do more than even the fanciest furniture could!

Read on for 5 easy tips on revamping a space in no time at all:

1. Select a Theme – As with any other kind of design requirement, a basic idea that ties together individual décor elements is the essential first step. Whether it is a colour scheme that you have in mind or a specific design style like pop-culture, street-style art or typography you can pick out specific items that coordinate with and complement each other.

2. Start with the Basics – Instead of rushing ahead to picking the colour of accent ribbons or picture frames, first start with selecting the artwork you would like to display. After you decide which art prints you want on your walls, you can then play with the idea of putting them up as is, hanging them in frames or even using them under glass-top tables or a thick layer of clear varnish for unusual effects!

3. Trust Your Preference – If you have a fondness for iconic Bollywood or vintage Hollywood movie posters, you could hang up a whole set of these quirky prints. If you’re the kind of person who likes the cute stuff, pick out a collection of whimsical pieces that feature adorable designs. Decide on the general effect you’d like to achieve and narrow down your options based on the genre or colour schemes you like.

4. But Keep Guests in Mind Too – Unless you plan to party all by yourself, you will need to consider the fact that some of your guests might not share your tastes in art. That doesn’t mean that you start asking what everyone else wants, just avoiding pieces that could potentially be disturbing. Think about the age or gender of people coming over and accordingly scrap any options that seem like they might be offensive, as there are always more to pick from.

5. Select the Right Size – Once you’ve picked out your favourites, measure the area that you plan to display them in and decide on a size based on that. A large blank wall would look great with a single oversized print in the centre, as well as multiple smaller ones that fit the theme, scattered around it. Other walls might need a variety of artwork in different sizes, but remember not to clutter any of them up, leaving space between each piece.

The good news is that with the number of choices available these days, picking out the perfect graphic art has become easier than ever. With options ranging from contemporary ‘rugged’ or distressed-effect prints to the classic and vintage styles that are back in vogues, there really is something for everybody. So what are you waiting for, let your creative side loose and use artwork to decorate your party venue, your way!

Happiness-Inducing Holiday Gifting for Everyone You Know – Part 2

In our earlier post on holiday gifting, we shared some ideas on how to find the ultimate holiday gifts for some unique kinds of people. Today, we continue in that vein, since there are a few other personality types we really want to talk about!

Each of them has a passion that sets them apart, whether it is family, work or a beloved hobby. Without further ado, let’s look at how to play Santa for some of our favorite people:

1. The Biker – Biking enthusiasts take their machines very seriously, so presenting them with vintage motorbike figurines, collectible license plates or limited edition gear (like Harley Davidson gloves) is bound to wow them.

It’s practically a love affair, so any gift that pays tribute to their mean-machine obsession will definitely be appreciated. You could even combine more than one area of interest, like a ‘Bat-Pod’ for a Dark Knight fan!

2. The Girly Girl – In complete contrast to the toughness of the biker is the super-feminine young woman who really loves being a girl! She’s probably the easiest to shop for, since there are so many products available that she would love.

Rather than buying run-of-the-mill stuff like perfume or makeup (which are very personal choices for most women), look for unique fashion accessories like eye-catching rings, crocheted scarves or super-feminine dresses!

3. The Homemaker – Do you dare ask what is unique about a homemaker? It takes a lot of guts and gumption to surrender a job or independent lifestyle and take on the task of running a home. Today’s homemaker (man or woman) is a strong and confident person who would love funky gifts instead of the boring stuff!

When you’re shopping for one of these incredible people, please skip the regular choices. Mugs, cutlery or fruit baskets are things they already have, so pick out something that is unique and wonderful, like a cheery wall print or a gorgeous rug.

4. The Animal Lover – While most of us love animals, there are a few people for whom they are as good as (or better than) most humans. These folk are the ones who actively work on animal rights or adopt a whole litter of four-legged family members!

Animal lovers appreciate gifts that announce their love for cats, dogs, birds, turtles or any other creature they are particularly fond of!

5. The New Parents – The joy of a new baby forms the center of a couple’s life when they become parents for the first time. Who cares about sleepless nights when there is an exciting, gorgeous bundle of energy at home?

How about a whimsical phone cover with an adorable baby on it so you can flaunt your happiness even on the go?

Their little one is the most important person in the world, so your gifts should revolve around the child. Decor or wall decals for the baby’s room, soft toys, or learn-with-play games are great gift choices for first-time parents!

It takes all kinds of people to make a world, and all of us know a few who stand out from the crowd. Dreamers, artists and romantics – versus hard-headed, ambitious and practical folk – the contrast is beautiful, creating a balance between left-and-right ‘brainers’. No matter the kind of person they are, your gifts should make them smile whenever they look at them!

Happiness-Inducing Holiday Gifting for Everyone You Know!

With the festive season in full swing, it’s time to start planning your gift list for the new year, as well as any holiday presents you’ve missed out on. If you couldn’t meet loved ones on Christmas or gave them an ‘I Owe You’ for their gifts, you should get cracking on them now and have everything ready by New Year’s Eve. After all, there’s nothing quite like playing Santa for the special someones :)

So How to Pick out the Perfect Gifts?

Your closest friends and family are easy to shop for, since you have a fair idea that the fantasy fiction aficionado would go ga-ga over a surreal wall art print! Others like your colleagues, boss, or the person you just started dating, might present a bit of a challenge. How do you pick gifts that they will really love?

The number-one tip is simple – turn into a super-spy and ask a few innocuous questions, or troll their Facebook page for ideas. Most people are quite happy to talk about themselves, so ask about their hobbies, interests, favorite movies, books and whatever else they like. Once you’ve collected some fun secrets of their personality, find stuff that fits the bill, like:

1. The Foodie – This could be someone who loves cooking, or someone whose idea of a good time is digging into delectable chow and wine. If you know someone who treats food as serious business, there’s nothing as awesome as a sassy apron, food-shaped plushy or a gorgeous wine rack!

4. The Sci-Fi Fan – For people who are serious about their love for science fiction, there is no lack of gifting options these days. Futuristic figurines, costumes, sci-fi books – the list just goes on and on. If you need to think about it, just imagine their expression when you gift them a Yoda poster or awesome iPhone case!

Sci-fi fans will adore a phone case or print that honors their love for the genre!

collage5. The Tattoo Buff – All of us know at least one person who can talk about tattoos all day long. Tattoo enthusiasts are always planning their next ‘ink’, so a tattoo-themed t-shirt, phone case or other accessories are some gift ideas you can be sure will get them grinning!

Picking out presents is always a confusing task, so if you need some ideas on what someone would appreciate, just ask them. You may have to deal with the formal ‘No, Nothing’, but everyone likes being asked for their opinion and may just tell you exactly what they want. Best part, whenever they look at their swag, they will always remember you with a smile! :)

Part two of this gifting guide continues later this week. Stay tuned!

Easy-Peasy DIY Holiday Decor for a Joyful Home

When the holiday season rolls around, the first thing that comes to mind is the gorgeous decor you see everywhere you go. Christmas trees, fairy lights, shiny ornaments, tinsel, the list just goes on and on. It’s hard not to get into the festive spirit when you’re surrounded by so much beauty and excitement!

When I think of the holiday season, my favorite memories are the afternoons spent with my family, indulging in crafty goodness – creating and embellishing beautiful decor accessories for our home. Just like cooking a meal from scratch, handmade decorations, greeting cards and gifts always seem more special than just buying something off the rack.

Let’s look at some really easy ideas you could try out, even if you’ve never DIY-ed anything before!

1. Glam Up Your Candles – This is really simple – all you need are some plain candles, glue, glitter, sequins and – most importantly – your own imagination. Glue sequins and glitter all over the candle, creating designs or just randomly strewing them on. Alternately, you could cover the sides of the candle with glue (about halfway up) and then just dip them in sequins or glitter for super-sparkly impact.

2. Show Off Your Photos – This is another simple and effective way to instantly add festive appeal to your home. Get a bunch of family photographs that you love (friends are family too!) and display them all over your home. You could get them printed on canvas for a large design, or place them in frames on your tables, walls or even hang smaller ones from the Christmas tree.

3. Create Paper Ornaments – Three-dimensional paper stars, trees and hearts are quite easy to make and if you use colorful patterned or metallic paper, they are really eye-catching. Just cut two identical shapes for each ornament, and then cut a slit halfway up the center of one and halfway down the center of the other. Slide them together at right angles and string them up. Voila, instant holiday decor!

4. Embellish Your Walls – Give your walls some holiday love too, with art prints, wall stickers and decals in festive hues like red, green and gold. You don’t even need to go looking for these since you can easily find a huge variety of designs, shapes and colors in online stores and have them delivered to you. Do you want to know the best part? Wall decor is not just for the holidays – it can add visual interest to any area of your home all year long!

5. Make Some Wreaths – Holiday wreaths don’t have to be complicated and you can whip one up in a matter of minutes. It couldn’t be simpler – just take an embroidery hoop or round frame, colored tissue paper or netting fabric in a festive shade and start looping the material over the frame. Scrunch it up for volume and glue it in place every few inches, continuing till the whole frame is covered. Then, just add a few beads, twigs, paper snowflakes, artificial holly sprigs or plastic berries and you’re done!

Making your own holiday home decor is an experience that you will never forget, especially if you get the whole family involved. As a bonus, guests and visitors will not be able to believe you did it all on your own!
